A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF UNIT 325

Hello to everyone!

We have had a very busy and exciting month!

Our Children and Youth Team worked very hard on the Pasta Fa School Dinner and Dance. We had 50/50’s and Baskets filled with cool prizes and live music by Thor, everyone had a fun time and our fundraiser was a GREAT Success! We raised over $700 cash, plus lots of school supplies.

After getting the lists of most needed items from two local Elementary schools, we went shopping and bought 60 backpacks, and 85 headsets for the children to use in the computer rooms. We divided all the other supplies and delivered them to the schools. They were so elated and grateful! And that is what it’s all about!

On September 10, a group of us went to the St Pete/ Clearwater Airport to welcome home the Veterans that had gone to Washington D.C. for the day on the Honor Flight #39. We waved flags and signs welcoming them home as they got off the airplane. We shook hands and let them know they are appreciated for their service so long ago! After all, because of their sacrifices we have the freedoms we have today! Such a heartwarming experience! We also got a group together and made personal cards and notes for the next flight #40.

On September 20, after the rededication of the POW/MIA Table, I had the honor of assisting six children (of our members) in a ceremony to dedicate a “Military Child’s Table Setting”. This was the first time we’ve done this BUT, it won’t be the last! Everyone loved the ceremony including the children. They did a fantastic job! We had pizza afterwards. All agreed to come back next year and do it again.

Our Unit and our Post 325 sponsored a softball team in Manatee county for the first time! On Saturday September 21, at 8:00 am, a group of us went to Palma Solo Park for the opening game. To our surprise our team was T-ball! They were three to five years old and so adorable and fun to watch.  At the end of their season we will be planning a cookout for them at our post.

Later that day, back at the post we had a group having fun participating in a painting class demonstrated by our past president Theresa Walls. Those that thought they could not paint got a big surprise! Every one of the paintings were fabulous and all enjoyed themselves! They even said they would do it again…

Thanks to everyone that made all this happen!!!!

Come join us on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm.

Until next time…

Linda Legeer, A.L.A Unit 325 President
